Dag in de Branding Festival on 11 May 2013 part of Netherlands Russia Year

Category: General

including work by Stravinsky and the world premiere of Night Butterflies, a piano concert by main guest Alexander Raskatov

The 28th edition of Dag in de Branding has a distinctly Russian flavour. Twentieth-century classics by Russian masters alternate with brand new work from the 'Motherland'. The Residentie Orkest, conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw, will perform the world premiere of Alexander Raskatov’s piano concert, Night Butterflies, with a leading role for pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama. Asko|Schönberg play Vladimir Tarnopolski’s Foucault’s pendulum, a piece that makes pendular movements between flowing and mechanical textures. Tarnopolski’s former student Anna Mikhailova wrote Black perfume, a trenchant mini-opera based on a story by Michail Boelgakov.

Pianoduo Bouwhuis and Van Zeeland will feature under the heading 'old masters'. The duo will give an exclusive Stravinsky concert together with Toonkunstkoor Amsterdam. Among other things, the duo will give their rendition of Symphony of Psalms. Dmitri Shostakovich wrote the piano arrangement of this work, and in the evening the Residentie Orkest will perform Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony.

This Russian programme will be complemented by a performance from the Berlin producer duo Barbara Morgenstern and Guido Möbius in Paard van Troje.
